Why we started Cargo Bike World
We started Cargo Bike World because we believe bikes can do more—carry more, connect more and create better ways to move through the world.
As a biking family, we needed something that could handle hills, kids, groceries and everyday life. We began with a longtail, added electric assist, and never looked back. That experience led us to open one of Ōtautahi’s first e-bike shops.
But we wanted something more: a cargo bike made right here for our people and our terrain. So in 2019, we built it. And Cargo Bike World was born.
Locally made. Teenager tested. Ready for anything.

Pete Thornton is the bike professional behind Cargo Bike World. A professional bike mechanic with over 25 years experience, Pete is a complete Cargo Bike enthusiast.
